I am sorry to say that I no longer care about the characters. I am uninterested in the war story. I am not really interested in the pending political battle to try and improve the status of the dragons.

I wish good luck to the characters and the readers who are enjoying the series! I won't be joining in the following books.

This was an excellent continuation of the Temeraire story but all I can think about after finishing it is how violent and abusive the story is to non-human, non-dragon animals. It makes it really hard to sympathize with the plight of the dragons (much less their human masters) when you see how horrific life is for the animals suffering at their hands. It wouldn't have been a problem if the book seemed to be trying to make a point about this, but I did not get that impression. This bad aftertaste has made it very hard to get myself to read the next volume. I wonder if this is why I ALWAYS end up quitting this series around this point. This is my third-plus attempt at a full read-through...

Another great addition to the series. This one flew by, and I think did a good job of displaying more of the brutal realities of war.

I liked this one better than the last; the travelling bits felt less drawn out and there was a lot of interesting new locations, characters, etc. I'm also happy we end the book finally back in England with all our old pals, plus Tharkay! I love Tharkay! Also loving Laurence's coming around on certain issues, and the development of his character.

Good, but ended kind of flatly.

Not as well-paced or -plotted as previous installments, but still fun, and the addition of new dragons enlivened the ending.
