Reading a book about a teenager who goes missing from her cabin at summer camp from my own cabin at adult summer camp really set the vibe (lol). This was so gripping and I really love how the author plays around with the concept of self-reliance and how different it looks for the wealthy and powerful. So good and the ending was so satisfying

I found the resolution of both central mysteries underwhelming. Additionally, the narrative device utilized here seemed to not have much purpose. The story is told across multiple timelines and from the viewpoints of various characters. Rather than these threads informing and illuminating each other - foreshadowing and complementing - they serve more as momentum killers. Conversations often end right when they’re getting interesting. I imagine this was intended to create a series of mini cliffhangers to keep us reading. But when we get back to those threads we find that the juicy bits have happened off page. Another victim of this is the story’s resolution. Each of the mysteries is explained
via flashback from the POV of characters who have heretofore not been included.

adventurous dark mysterious

An enjoyable mystery with too many conveniences to be fully satisfying in the end.
