Insane that I didn't even know that one of my favourite movies of all time, Kiki's Delivery Service, was based on a book until I saw this in a charity shop!!

The original text has been translated from Japanese and the adorable illustrations throughout the book are clearly inspired by the Studio Ghibli adaptation. It's a really cute book and I really enjoyed seeing where the inspiration for the movie came from. The original text isn't exactly the same as the movie and Kiki goes on a few different adventures which is fun! SO CHARMING

This was a cute and very easy to read book. This was perfect for me to still be able to read a little bit throughout my reading slump.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! Everything about it was so cute—from the reason behind its existence to the character relationships and experiences.

Going into this, I did expect a storyline that followed the Studio Ghibli movie, but (like Howl’s Moving Castle) they both are exceptional in their own ways. The book is more a series of adventures and slice of life than the movie, which makes sense. The ending was also better in the book because it really fit with the story we get throughout with a feeling of open-endedness yet definitely being a good stopping point. Kiki’s going to keep learning lessons and grow old and find her people, but those are all adventures for another day.

The lighthearted feel to this and just general cozy vibes make this such a good book to read when you’re looking for something fun, sweet, and light. It’s such a cute book, and the narrator for the audiobook does an amazing job bringing the characters to life.

Cute little thing, and I like the contrast with the animation.
