This story brought a lot of tears toward the end. I do love a sad story now and then, and it provided a needed catharsis.

I really thought that I was going to enjoy this one but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me.
A romantic tragedy you would think would be tense, sensual and gripping, however I found it to be tedious, bleak and monotonous.
I did enjoy the unreliability of the, what can only be described as, self- serving characters, and the story really picked up at the end.
Also, pray for Zeena lol.

DNF pg. 16. Classics put me to sleep. I'm sorry Archer, I couldn't do it. Not sure if I'll return.

Jeez. Probably the most depressing book I've ever read. I will say though that it further impressed upon me the reason for the saying "Carpe diem."
You get one life. Live it how you want to. If you can handle the consequences, then take a chance on what could be the best decision you've ever made.

This was fine. Good on Wharton for doing something completely different from her other books-- but it's definitely missing that it factor.
The best part of the book was when the cat crept onto the table and knocked over the pickle dish. Ethan’s and Mattie’s purposeful accident should not have been the way for Mattie to stay.
