This book destroyed me. The longer I am alive the more I admire Wharton.

If you are actively looking to depress yourself, read this book. I’m sure it has some literary significance and that’s why it’s taught in lit classes, but my opinion will never change. This book is a sad waste of time.

It's basically that Sad Ant With Bindle meme "when your bitch wife who hates you still won't let you fuck her hopeless and meek cousin." MAN SHUT UP

Like so much literature read in high school, this is worth revisiting as a grown-ass woman.

Depressing or Dark Comedy

Team Zeena, “I'm going to root for the sick woman who is justifiably looking out for her health over her husband who cares more about his side hoe than about the woman he swore to God and the government to have and to hold in sickness and in health.”

So sad.

Note: Read this for summer reading, going into 10th grade
This book reminded me of 'Of Mice and Men'. I hated that book. And I definitely do not like this one at all. There was so many run-on sentences. Why? Because there had to be at least three adjectives and a simile and/or metaphor to describe something. Also, was it me, or were there TONS of missing commas? Halfway through the book, I started writing them in myself. These factors combined made me re-read the same sentences multiple times, adding to my frustration and dislike of the book. No one needs that level of description to go on for the entire book. (This is also true for 'Of Mice and Men'.)
The life of Ethan Frome is the most depressing of any fictional character ever. I have no sympathy for him though. When his mom died, he could've gone back to college, not stay. Then none of the hardships he faces in the book would've happened. It also bothered me how submissive he was towards Zeena. Although, I was bothered when he "commanded" Mattie, she obeyed and how he notably enjoyed how submissive she was to him. (Gag)
This book left me wondering: Why is death always a valid option
