I did not expect to like this book as much as I did, but I found myself really digging in and needing to know. The tone of the book is dark, and the story tragic. I feel as though I should explore Wharton more now, and I am looking forward to it despite the fact that I have heard that this is a rather unique book from her. Holla

In my opinion the weakest of Wharton's novels, but still quite good. For such a short piece, she manages to paint a detailed and poignant picture of her character's lives and struggles.

I liked this more than I thought I would! Classics can sometimes drag, but that was not the case with this one. Wharton created characters that readers can relate to in a situation that has spanned time and space. I probably would've rated the book higher, but I already knew the basic storyline, so there were no surprises as I read.

Beautifully written and nicely performed by the reader. Haunting classic.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but as I read more of it, reading about the difficult situation Ethan found himself in, the more engaged I became until I had no idea how things may turn out except that it wouldn't be good. The ending was startling and terrible, I enjoyed this book quite a lot and I'm glad I read it.

good read. I read it for school and liked discussing literary things with my class. However if I was reading it by myself I wouldn’t have enjoyed it nearly as much. BUT ALSO
