Reread this year for a work project. Just as heartbreaking the second time!

Read with tissues handy. This heartbreaking novel manages to discuss war, loss, grief, and PTSD all in a way kids can understand. Forget kids, it discusses all those things in a way I understand.

Amazing. Makes me want to try writing some middle grade!

I wish I could give this book six stars. It will stay with me for a long time. The story is fantastically told, the scene is beautifully illustrated. And of course, it's about my favorite animal! Pennypacker did research with fox specialists to ensure that she was as accurate as can be in a story like this. The result is fantastic. Do recommend. To anyone, and especially those who are conscious of the effects of war on the surrounding land, people, animals, and communities.
