*sobbing* I JUST REALLY LOVE FOXES OKAY. 4.4 stars
PT: environmental books, books about foxes, children’s books (¿), orange covers
WIL
1) a bond between a boy and his fox. I started crying instantly.
2) war-sickness. I will always love characters describing other cultures from their own POV. Anthropology but make it fiction! Also?? The ripple effect of war as seen by The Innocent? I want to hug every single person in this story (except maybe not the coyote. Or maybe-?)
3) fox8: the longer version with emotions for a whole different reason. (See “I JUST REALLY LOVE FOXES OKAY”)
4) Vola and Bristle and parallels abound. Peter and Pax are the SAME and their parallel narratives are incredible. Sara why have you done this to me I WASNT READY.

Can't WAIT to read this aloud! So much to think and talk about.
My thoughts: I know they say never judge a book by its cover but it’s impossible not to fall in love with the beautiful illustrations of Jon Klassen. This book jumped off the shelf and straight into my basket of course
The writings was good/descriptive but I didn’t follow the story.
Such a good and well written book, but also very sad and very hard to read.
I am an ANIMAL LOVER and therefore I love animal books. This was a sweet and powerful story about a boy who is forced to abandon his pet fox in the woods — and instantly regrets it. They spend the book separated, searching for each other.
Wow what a book! I was given this to read by a Y6 child at school and I’m so glad he did. It was a rollercoaster of a book that made my cry at times but it has such a powerful message. Definitely a great UKS2 book.

I recognize that this book was not made for me, and adult woman, so I’m inclined to give it grace, but it was much more sad and, like, cryptic than I was expecting? I wanted to know WHERE we were, but I couldn’t tell. I wanted to know more about what this war over water was about, and who were the two sides. Was this a magical realism story, or was it a contemporary coming of age? They had cars and photos and TV, but not cellphones or computers - historical fiction? I don’t know, and all these things kept getting caught like snags in my mind, so it was just hard for me to picture.
