It was cute. This was my first space opera and I enjoyed it a lot.

Loved the characters based narrative. There was a plot, but it wasn't like, that important. It was about the people

There were a few parts to the story that definitely felt rushed and needed developed more, but it was her debut novel, so giving some grace there.

Definitely going to keep going in the series

It's a cozy space scifi full of AI and aliens, and yet it made me think so much about humanity. Loved this book!

This book was just so fun and surprisingly heartwarming. I loved learning more about their cultures and histories, and seeing how everyone interacted with each other even with the obstacles that come with being different species was super interesting. The whole crew is so lovely and feel so genuine. I felt so invested in who they were and their relationships.

The more action oriented scenes were also super well done, and felt so tense and high-stakes despite the more cozy feel of the rest of the book. I was actually shocked by how tense it could get.

At times it can feel like the plot is meandering, but I enjoyed the characters so much that it barely even phased me. I would definitely recommend. :)

4.5 stars. This was so much fun. Chambers has such a great and cozy style of writing. I thought all of the characters were incredibly charming and likable and the world building was fascinating. I'm glad that I've finally picked this up because it was an entertaining adventure and I will for sure be continuing on.

An entire book dedicated to pleasant, ordinary people doing their best, with a heavy focus on space anthropology alien culture and biology? Yes please.

It doesn't have a three-act structure (honestly, it reads more like a serialized comic or TV show), but it's just so damn endearing, and it's so refreshing to see characters handling their problems like reasonable adults.

I normally reserve 5 star ratings for books that were "life changing", but this book was just such a fun, positive, and refreshing take on SciFi that I had to make an exception.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (TLWTASA) was really driven by characters: their personalities, their cultures, their emotions, and changing relationships. At one point (minor spoiler) there were a bunch of metal-eating insects that swarmed the planet the characters were on. Whereas most other books would've taken the opportunity for a fast-paced, exciting, race for survival, TLWTASA took it as an opportunity for characters to hole-up and have a BBQ and trade stories with new found friends behind their shields. It was kinda funny how I saw the action scene coming, and then was pleasantly surprised when it went a completely different direction.

There was still some action in the book, but it was so nice that that wasn't the *focus* of the book -- the largely lovable characters were. Additionally, characters were generally successful by not being the best fighters, but rather by being excellent at their jobs whether that be fixing up tech or even writing good reports.
