Who can honestly hate Amelia Bedilia? Her wacky adventures and naivety has a lasting effect on anyone who wisely chooses to read her books.
I HATE these books. I have no patience for the "takes everything literally" thing.
Amelia Bedelia is so fun to re-read! She takes all of her duties so literally that she sometimes messes them up, but her Lemon Meringue Pie is so good that the Rogers keep her around. I really enjoyed re-reading this book, it was so much fun to re-visit.
A favorite of mine in third grade. Basically, Amelia Bedelia doesn't understand colloquialisms. Pun hilarity ensues!
Growing up with a lot of family and friends that spoke English as a second language, our move was usually just to mangle the colloquialisms. Maybe it's a good lesson for kids that not everyone understands these English expressions.

'There lay the chicken. And he was just as dressed as he could be'.
I loved this book as a child, the wordplay and Amelia Bedelia's literal interpretations tickling my fancy (how would she render that, I wonder?). And I love this book as an adult; it remains charming, funny and warm-hearted. A classic.

Yes I'm eighteen years old, and I still reread and still found this funny. Stop judging. 😜
I LOVED the Amelia Bedelia books when I was about 2d-3d grade! She was so funny.
Oh, I just loved the Amelia Bedelia series when I was in kindergarten and 1st grade. I remember taking AR tests on them. I definitely want my kids to read these books,if I have any children, that is.
Amelia Bedelia is a children's picture book about a maid on her first day of work. She is left a list of chores to accomplish while her new employers go out. The story is about the literal use of language, and watching what we say as opposed to what we mean. It is a great lesson for children, but for adults as well.
While I have heard of Amelia Bedelia before I have never read the story. I was surprised to find myself laughing out loud. The picture of the turkey was as humorous as it was disturbing. I can see children laughing at the weird things that Amelia does, like hanging the light bulbs out in the sun. Although, I wonder if they would take away as much humor from the story as I did.
The illustrations are black, white, green, and gray. They are pleasing, well done, and work well with the text.
The fiftieth anniversary edition also includes pages about how Amelia Bedelia was developed, drafts of pages, and the history of Amelia Bedelia.
