Read to Briella Holland.

On her first day as a maid for Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, Amelia Bedelia takes her list of tasks a little to literally. She makes many, many mistakes...but she also makes a delicious lemon-meringue pie, which saves her job! Mr. and Mrs. Rogers learn to be more specific when giving Amelia tasks...and Amelia continues making delicious pies.

A very hilarious story that children love.

My kids LOVE this... all of them ages from 4-9... and it drives me batty. But I love them, so I keep reading it. : )

I didn't really get into Amelia Bedelia as a kid, but thought I'd try reading a few of the books to my kids since they are classics. I think the book shows its age (and class status). I think the children the book was written for are the kind of children who would say, "Haha! Draw the curtains! That's not what "draw the curtains" means!" But that phrase is almost archaic these days. Seriously, when's the last time you heard someone tell you to "put out the lights?" So I'm still not a fan and will probably not continue to read more of the series to my kids.

Oh Amelia Bedelia, how I've missed you. I do have to apologize for my daughter - perhaps she is a bit too young to really appreciate you. She didn't mean to be condescending when she said "she should know better - she's a grown woman!" And it does kind of ruin the humour in things when Mommy has to constantly stop and explain the jokes.

I hope she comes around - I was very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series with her.

I loved this book. I loved it as a child and I love it still. In reading it today I literally was laughing so hard I was crying. I’m sure it is flawed and a product of its time but I just found it to be fun and funny.

I started laughing when she began cutting up the towels 😭

Moral of the story: lemon meringue pie will save you

I enjoyed the Amelia Bedelia stories as a kid, but I think only ever read a few of them, this one included. So after seeing a meme one day about her it made me want to reread this for old times sake… then I decided I want to read them all. So at 24, that is what I’m doing. Reading the Amelia Bedelia books in order of publication. 😂

My Rating System  📖 (but I'm indecisive so ratings subject to change and not be consistent with my scale. A 4 star may actually be a 5 star and a 3 star may be a 4.5 star)

1 star: hated it. Would never recommend
2 stars: Not my cup of tea, but could be somebody else's
3 stars: I liked it well enough, I don't know if I'd reread, but I
would recommend if occasion arose
4 stars: I really liked it!! I would reread one day. I'd
recommend if occasion arose
5 stars: I LOVED IT!! I shall rave about it even if nobody
listens
*half stars get rounded up. For example, 3.5 stars will become 4 stars
