This was okay, but I never connected with any of the characters. Anna didn't feel like a 50-year-old woman to me.

This started off a little slow for me, but it really blossomed by the end. Beautiful story of growth, identity, and family

Oh wow. Please, if you can, listen to the audiobook version of Sankofa... Sara Powell is a perfect narrator for this story and this protagonist. If I had read Sankofa instead of listened, I think I would have found Anna distant, difficult to know, cold. And to an extent, she is all of those things. But Powell does such a good job breathing emotion and hesitancy into Onuzo's writing, and it elevates the whole work, I think.

Sankofa is something truly gorgeous. 4.5/5, only because the ending fell a little strangely to me, and I don't think it quite matched the tone of the rest.
