The immersive experience of listening to Raynor Winn read this particular book is something I would recommend to all readers of The Salt Path. This poignant book offers insights into life’s fragility while weaving reflection and humour for moments of light relief.

As an aside, I have to say, Winn’s insights into homelessness have really challenged me as a reader to reserve judgement and make space for the nuance of unique experience.

Raynor Winn’s trademark narrative voice inspires me as an author, but will live on with me as a reader. What an extraordinary writer that the world has gifted to us.

I chose to read π“π‘πž π’πšπ₯𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐑, a memoir by Raynor Winn, as part of a 2023 challenge created by my friends in The Little Book Nook group. This book fulfills my own prompt of reading a book about nature, as it follows a couple on their 630-mile trek down the South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset. ⁣
After 32 years of marriage, Moth learns he is terminally ill, and he and Raynor lose their home, all within a matter of days. Walking "homeless" through their grief along the coastal cliffs, they find an unexpected strength living in nature, redefining "home" as more than just a place. ⁣
I loved this heartfelt book. I could feel and taste their descriptions of the salty air, and could imagine their experiences in the natural world. What a beautiful memoir.⁣

I felt like I could finally stop and think when reading this memoir. I loved the writing style: descriptive and atmospheric but kept you firmly planted in the reality of it. I loved how Winn explored the impact her journey was having on her in conjunction with snippets from her past and hopes for the future. It was a very thoughtful and inspiring read.

I was completely swept up in the nature and their journey along the path-- it made me appreciate nature so much. The world is so beautiful! We are so lucky to be surrounded by such a rich and giving environment. Note to self: must spend more time outside!
