Interesting series but it wraps up suddenly after so much travel under time pressure to locate and get the gods involved that it's strange. At 92 percent read they were still trying to find the last god to ask for help, then suddenly "of course we care and all showed up to help humans."
And Ekon suddenly deciding his anxiety is fine and counting and tapping isn't embarrassing at all, after three long books of him not realizing that, was one of many "oops I need to end this and wrap everything up with a bow right now" deus ex machina type of resolutions.
I liked this series okay but this ending with everything suddenly resolved was a letdown and I'm definitely left with a "well I'm done with that and won't need to re-read ever" conclusion.

I am so sad to say goodbye to these characters. Ekon is an amazing character and I loved seeing him fight through his anxiety. Koffi is incredibly strong and is a great female protagonist. I adored these two throughout this entire series, and loved watching their character development. This book had a lot of intense moments and so much fun adventure to read about! I had higher hopes for this finale, but I think it wrapped up nicely! I just felt like the ending was rushed quite a bit and could’ve been much better. But I still enjoyed this conclusion so much! Watching these friendships build and deepen, seeing the most enchanting creatures, and learning about an incredible world with a super interesting magic system just made this entirely worth the read! Plus all of the African mythology?! So much research and love went into this series and it definitely paid off!
