This book follows Terriana, second in command to ship. Her people are born of the sea, and have always been told to keep the secrets of the sea. Marcus is a soldier with many terrible secrets. Commander of the 37 legion, she has helped the Calendor Empire conquer the world. When the people in power discover that the Dark Shores exist, they blackmail Terriana and her people to show them how to get there. Marcus is forced to lead the legionaries accross the see with Teriana leading the way. Can he trust his enemy to take his men safely? Can she trust him to hold his end of the bargain to free her people?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although I found it a little difficult to get into the world and understand the political situation of this world, once I did, I was full on invested. The addition of the first book that I have does not have a map and I think that would’ve really helped me understand the world more if it was there. However, I do understand that there is a version online and possibly in the other books. The political move that play here or so entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. There are some things I was easily able to gas and others I weren’t. There’s a lot of secrets still yet to be revealed and I’m very excited to see where it will go.

The characters were absolutely phenomenal. Even the side characters became of my favorites, and I loved so many of interactions that they had with both Teriana and Marcus. The banter between all of these different relationships were so enjoyable, and made me laugh out loud.

The romance it’s a slow burn, but I enjoyed it so much. Marcus and Tariana are true enemies to lovers and their interactions really sitting at home. But when things begin to soften between them, you just can’t help it here for them. Even though this is a YA Book, and therefore Contains fade to black scenes, I did not mind because everything leading up to those moments were so enjoyable and satisfying.

I am immediately picking up the second book and cannot wait to see what’s going to happen next. My heart is breaking, I am so nervous and anxious for these characters and I have a feeling the next few books are not gonna go well for some of them.

This book is also told and duo perspective, although the focus being on Tariana. The audiobook is very well done and highly recommend it.
