Enormous plot holes, gratuitous rape and violence serving no purpose whatsoever. Any characters you might care about killed off constantly. All in service of an aimless plot and pompous main character.

I loved reading this! Octavia Butler was definitely ahead of her time and with how dystopian the world  seems, this gave me comfort while also unnerved me. I'm excited to read the second book in the series. I didn't love the Earthseed stuff, but I understand how it adds depth to the overall storyline.
