Of course this is amazing. Grace Lin's trilogy of Chinese-folklore-inspired magical tales is a treasure. I believe that I read the first two in ARC form, so I was especially delighted to have the full color paintings and chapter headings in this one, which I purchased. I am going to have to buy copies of the first two so that I have the whole gorgeous set.

I would hand this trilogy to kids who are interested in mythology and/or Chinese tales. Each book stands alone, so no need to pick them up in any order.

This was even more exciting than [b:Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|5983694|Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|Grace Lin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1549333297l/5983694._SX50_.jpg|6157354]! It also felt like a continuation of the story too. Not that one needed to know the first one to read this.

This was good - not quite as charming and captivating as Mountain/Moon, but has all the same delightful elements; a grand adventure, stories within stories, heroism, etc. etc. Solid addition to the series!

I love many things about Grace Lin's novels, and each previous one has been delightful. Each book is a puzzle, a mess of threads you get to sort out even as she weaves them into a story, but When the Sea Turned to Silver is far and away my favorite.

Because there is something astounding about stories well told, and a story that tells them well and honors that power is a truly special story indeed.

I've returned the book to the library, so I don't have the exact quote, but it goes something like: when you are in prison with a storyteller, you aren't really in prison at all.

This book is about a storyteller, her granddaughter and what happens when the storyteller is kidnapped by the Emperor. It's filled with adventures, stories (of course) and many fine illustrations.

This book contains a lot of fairytales and besides that also a good story line. When Pinmei's grandmother (the storyteller) gets kidnapped Pinmei does everything she can to find and save her grandma.

It is not a aldult fantasy book, but still highly enjoyable for everyone who likes fairytales. I won't recommended this book to parents with young children. The kidnapping part can be to violent for small children. It is a good book for children above 11 to read.

I was skeptical that this book would live up to the glorious pair that are [b:Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|5983694|Where the Mountain Meets the Moon|Grace Lin|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344265026s/5983694.jpg|6157354] and [b:Starry River of the Sky|13521501|Starry River of the Sky|Grace Lin|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347592144s/13521501.jpg|19082177], but it does. Where the defining questions of the first two books were "What is the secret to happiness?" and "What is the secret to peace?", that of this book is "What is the secret to immortality?", and the answer is beautiful.

This book is beautiful!

As compared to other Grace Lin books, I couldn't enjoy it the way I enjoyed the other books. Plot is good but I felt like some events were unnecessary. A bit disappointed with this one since she's one of my favorite writer.
