Red Queen has already been a bestseller in Spain for years, and has now been translated to English and publishes today in the US. As soon as I saw the blurb comparing Antonia Scott to Lisbeth Salander, I knew I had to read this one!

It was easy to get hooked on this one. It's fast paced, with short chapters, and interesting characters. Antonia Scott is a certified genius, who has the ability to notice the tiniest details and solve impossible crimes. She is teamed up with Jon Gutierrez, an openly gay police detective, who is on unpaid leave after some not-so-legal activity to try to capture a known criminal. I was really hooked on the story and I flew through this book. Its a great police procedural, but it didn't feel bogged down with procedure, as some tend to be.

I only had a few issues with the book. First, I wanted a little more from Antonia. She wasn't as easy to connect with as I would have liked, and I hope future installments of this series get more into her backstory. Also I had some issues with some of the language--there were a lot of references to people's weight in the book, and I'm iffy on the way Jon talks about himself as a gay man. This could be a cultural difference or an issue with the translation, I'm not sure. It wasn't bad enough to make me stop reading, it just gave me pause.

Overall, if you're looking for a fast paced police procedural with interesting characters, be sure to check this one out!

Lots of twists and turns. Like the protagonists and the humor, though it did feel too long at times.

So excited that this is a trilogy
