Bullet Review:

This isn't original in the slightest. In fact, it feels like a blend of two other Rucka specials, Stumptown and Lazarus. But damned if I didn't enjoy the hell out of it. Yes, the characters are cliched (especially Nile and Andy), the story goes along the route you would expect for something like this - but again, I can't help it, I really enjoyed reading about this.

Totally wouldn't mind seeing where this story goes, especially how this one ended (most interesting way to deal with the betrayal plotline I've seen in awhile).

A relatively unambitious and vague premise with some generic characters with some interesting relationships. The action heavy art however isn't laid out or drawn with any real flow and the characters are sort of vague looking and difficult to distinguish or engage with or even like. The main character is an irritating "badass" and the whole thing feels like Rucka knocking something off in a weekend so he can get Netflix to buy it. The colour work is very strong and likeable though.

This is fine. It made me appreciate a lot of the adaptation choices made by the Netflix film, for which I can now clearly see Rucka (who also wrote the screenplay) refined many of his initial ideas; unfortunately, if you come to this graphic novel after the movie, the comic feels like a rough draft.

Also I really dislike the art, which is stylized to the point of being ugly: everyone looks kind of simian? Leandro Fernández's heterosexuality certainly seems to be on full display. (If this is an incorrect assumption: my deepest apologies, dude.)

But at least Joe's speech -- you know the one -- is here in all its glory.

Great comic. Wish it was longer and I can't wait to get my hands on book 2!
Having seen the movie first, I'm glad they followed the comic book closely.

I really enjoyed this comic! I watched the movie before getting my hands on this and was super impressed with how many things I loved from the movie were direct pulls from the book. The relationships between all the characters were super fascinating and entertaining. Mostly an adventurous and emotional story, but with plenty of humor. Definitely pretty violent with some gore but not excessive in my opinion. I highly recommend for anyone looking for an action packed, emotional story with a bit of fantasy.
