I rated The Silent Patient 5 stars. The Maidens was a reluctant 4. This one is an emphatic 3. There's not much in the narrative to hold you and make you keep turning pages. Even for a short book of less than 250 pages it seems a bit long. Also, obviously in such books, the narrative is supposed to mislead you but being flagrantly dishonest is annoying. Also, the climax seems too unreal, almost contrived.

Fun! Which came first, this or glass onion? Twists for the sake of twists? Maybe. But the writing was fun and the structure was creative. 3.5!

So much fun to read and also objectively bad.

what the heck. This was compelling in the beginning but dear god why did it have to go like that.
The guy friend being a creep and secretly in love with the friend to the point he ends up murdering her when rejected is soooooo played out. That honestly just pissed me off.
I had to speed up the book to finish it.
