I liked the writing style and the plot was compelling enough to want to keep reading. Maybe not as good as The Silent Patient, but good in its own way!

2.5⭐️ rounded up. I almost quit toward the beginning, as I found the writing horrific — Chapter 5 was a train wreck — but I’d preordered this book, so… I’m actually glad I plodded on, as the plot redeemed the book. If you can get past the terribly written first third of this book, and the irritating use of a narrator speaking directly to the reader (and even worse, telling so much more than showing), the plot has some fun twists that make the thriller a little bit exciting. A quick read and entertaining enough. I still want to read The Silent Patient to give Michaelides another chance.

I did not like how the author was writing to us the reader as the audience. The book also jumped all over the place. It did keep me reading until the end though.

I was excited for this book because I loved Silent Patient. This book was nothing like I expected it to be.

Could’ve been a lot shorter, dragged at certain points but overall entertaining.

Story line was great kept me hooked until the last page but I can’t stand when within the book the narrator writes about the book you’re reading and tells you ‘to keep reading’.. or teases you with ‘well that’s what I wish happened but this is what actually happened’
