This is the best book I’ve read this year! I can’t believe I didn’t know Lucy Maud Montgomery wrote other books besides the “Anne of Green Gables” series! This book has all of the wit, charm, and beauty of the “Anne” series, but is written for an older reader, which was really nice. All of the characters are so interesting, the plot moves along well and even caught me off guard more than once, and her description of nature and the setting are just so magical. Highly recommend!

I have never read Anne of Green Gables, nor watched the children’s tv show. However, I must have seriously missed out. The Blue Castle was my first introduction to L.M. Montgomery’s writing, and it was just absolutely beautiful and wonderful, and just everything I was looking for. I am always on the lookout for some type of historical fiction with an interesting plot and a bit of romance thrown into the mix. I love this book. I sympathized so much with Valancey. The escapism, the desire to do more or have done at least something. I think most people would feel the same draw in life. I am looking forward to reading the rest of L.M. Montgomery’s books.

Such a lovely story that I never knew L. M. Montgomery wrote! A perfect surprise to discover while in the midst of a pandemic and stay at home order. This story brought me to a world of natural beauty and enough drama to be fun and not stressful. It has become one of my favorite books and I’ll be purchasing this one to reread again and again.

ok this book was such a good light read that i was able to get through really fast. valancy is such a good protagonist and seeing her just letting all her intrusive thoughts win was so great.
barney was such a great mysterious love interest and him fighting for her at the end?? my heart, i love him. and she is so happy at the end it's heartwarming.
even though it was written so long ago the language and topics are still easy to read and understand. overall it is just such a wholesome and relaxing easy read.
