A beautiful story of trauma and therapy and triumph. Told on audiobook by the author, including snippets from therapy sessions, really made this book stand out. The retelling of her childhood trauma was difficult to listen to, but worthwhile through the next parts of her story. A life full of love.

I cannot word my love for this book in a proper way. It made me cry and it was intense but I couldn’t stop reading. Even working 10 hour shifts and being in school at the same time I finished it in four days.

I don't read memoirs often because they aren't my cup of tea but so many people were recommending this book over the body keeps score because the author of that book is abusive and problematic, which foo acknowledges in her memoir. I am so glad that I listened to/read this. Sometimes it was hard to get through but it was so necessarily and I am thankful that I pushed through. What I really liked about this book is the discussion around mental health, abuse, and immigrants/asian cultures. As a Black woman, who knows intimately how taboo talking about mental health and trauma can be in my own community, it is heartening to see other people and their communities bring this to the forefront to discuss because it isn't something that cannot be ignored. It really is inspiring. In the end, I feel that this book helped me understand myself and my own trauma more and for that, I will be forever thankful.
