5 starts for the romance, 5 Stars for the mystery, 5 Stars for the character development and plot. 5 Stars to it all.

I have never been so frustrated and confused. As soon as it hit the part where Miles arrested Otis and getting a little aggressive with everyone that crossed his path, I couldn’t put it down. I had to finish it, even if that meant staying up until 3am. I can understand everyone’s point of view of the case. Miles is grieving and emotional, he wanted someone to pay no matter what. A lot of times, people aren’t listening to reason or common sense. Sarah trying to find out the details and keep him from screwing up even more.. I feel like she could’ve done more to get through to him. Charlie I know you are doing your job BUT MOVE OUT OF MILES WAY before he crushes you too. Otis, Earl, and Sims... how and why did they say things like that? They should go to jail for lying and messing up the case.

Poor little Jonah has no clue what in the world is going on, but he knows Miss Andrews hasn’t visited in awhile and his father isn’t the same. That whole scene where he was asking his father if he’s mad or why he’s ignoring him broke my heart. He’s only seven and has to go through this, seeing his father go from happy to losing his mind to angry to shock... I hope he’s okay in the end, he deserves his happiness, Oreos, and time to build his toy towers.

I noticed there was something off about Brian but holy cow. That wasn’t even close to what I expected. I thought he was just going through some teenager phase, but I guess not. It makes sense though. Hopefully with Miles’, Sarah’s and the rest of the town’s forgiveness he can heal and move on. Possibly forgive himself too.

I absolutely loved this book! I do love Nicholas Sparks as an author, but at times his novels are a little to predictable in the romance aspect. However, this book had a wonderful element of mystery and suspense along with the romance! I thought that all the characters were very likable and realistic. The third person perspective was also very well done as well as the chapters that switch to first person (which I loved!).

Usually I expect something very tragic to happen in a Sparks novel, so it was nice that the tragedy preceded the story's telling and the emotional tugging came from plot twists. I read this to review for my assisted care center ladies. I think they will like it.

If I could do half-stars this would’ve been a 3.5. But alas, I cannot, and it was more on the 3 end than the 4. So far this is one of my preferred Sparks books because it’s got a bit more of a murder-mystery feel than just all romance, but I DID guess the culprit within the first 20 pages. Oh well. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

miles was married to his high school sweetheart, missy, and they had one son, jonah, during their perfect marriage. after a hit and run event kills missy, miles has devoted the rest of his life as the sheriff to find out who the killer is and get his revenge. while jonah is falling behind in class, his teacher sarah offers to help him after school. eventually sarah and miles grow closer together and begin to fall for each other. they both have secrets and broken hearts to be healed. in order for it to last, miles and sarah need to learn to be vulnerable and find closure.

this one wasn’t completely predictable (except according to mom it was). i really liked the mystery elements and shifting perspectives similar to greenwich park. miles is a hot mess of a man and poor jonah is definitely going to need some hard core therapy. but sarah is like the sweet mrs honey in matilda and i love her so much. to me they honestly don’t vibe with each other at all and i don’t love their relationship however i liked how the stories ended up connecting in the end.

This was short and probably the worst Sparks so far. Blah. I keep reading his books hoping one will be as good as The Notebook or A Walk To Remember and so far haven't come across one.
