I like these books. The writing is solid and the mysteries complex enough to be intriguing. But after 8 books, the Harry/Cleo thing has become tiresome. Not only do we not have any real idea why Cleo is opposed to a relationship (other than that she doesn’t want to marry…so does she plan to live a celibate life??), but the persistent man and reluctant woman giving mixed signals trope is worn out and kind of gross.

'Murder at the Dinner Party' is the eighth book of the 'Cleopatra Fox' series.

Though it's far into the series, it's not hard to read without having read the rest of the series, though, I will admit, it robs you of some of the romantic banter.

Still, the characters were interesting and the author managed to create the perfect atmosphere.

However, the mystery, though it started strong, it got a bit side-sided as the story progressed.

Good fun little mystery. But I need her to kiss Harry in the next book. A plus side is that you don’t need to start from the beginning of this series to fully understand what is going on. I just checked this out for a buffer book but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it so I might read more from this series.

I enjoy this series and I look forward to seeing more of Cleo and Harry. I'm glad that Harry is making himself clearer with Cleo but the slow burn is dragging on now. We need to see something more, perhaps a discussion of why Cleo wants to avoid marriage, her agreeing to a relationship with Harry, how the dynamics and reactions of both of their families will play into their relationship and how their own dynamic will change as they investigate as a couple. So much more there to see and character development that could happen if the slow burn were to end.
