An intense story about a boy whose father attempts to solve the serial killing of Black women in a segregated and very racist community in the 1930s. A hard read, but very well written.

The book deals with a series of sexually motivated killings of women in a segregated and very racist community. There are graphic descriptions of racial violence, including lynchings. Many characters (though not the main characters) are dismissive of the violence towards women of color.
