Kinda cute but could have gone a little deeper.

The best thing about this novel is the appealingly buoyant voice of Nick, the 16-year-old neurodiverse narrator. The story is a bit disjointed, and it takes Nick waaaaay too long to figure out what is obvious to the reader fairly early on. But it was still a blast to read. Lots of fun.

I loved this book so much! TJ always writes these characters who make me feel so many emotions, I laughed out several times and of course I cried too. All the characters were so charming and of course Nick was an adorable clueless dumbass. I can’t wait for the next one!

I didn't read any reviews beforehand, so if this is repeat info, I apologize:
KEEP LISTENING. Do not stop the book at the end.
--LISTEN TO THE WHOLE EPILOGUE
-- TO THE SHORT MUSIC
-- then listen to the five minutes after the music!

I love all of Klune's work I've consumed so far. He really has a gift for making you laugh as you cry, because you can't help but love and adore his characters, and you end up feeling for them.

This gets 4.5 stars from me because there were some points where the dialogue gets to be too much.

This was a fun read. I always enjoy YA books with queer friend groups. The addition of Nick with ADHD is much appreciated and a demonstration that not having a typical brain does not mean that you are useless. As what I'm assuming is a first in the series, I felt like there was an appropriate amount of build up and background necessary to have these superheroes continue to help out Nova city. I really appreciated that the high schoolers did not appear to be written as older than their age or as preaching about things. It's definitely worth a reread as well.

I genuinely laughed out loud while reading this. Some of the conversations Nicky has with his friends are the types of ridiculous and wild conversations I can imagine having with mine!! The "big reveal" was definitely predictable but even so I really enjoyed the ride there.

If you're looking for a funny take on superheroes I would definitely recommend this!
