Interesting portrait of competitive children and their parents.

I enjoyed this book and all the characters and all the drama that surrounds privileged people, but it got three stars because there was no climax?? Nothing really happened? I was hoping it was going to be somewhat similar to Big Little Lies— maybe less intense, but in the end it was very minor, predictable happenings with zero consequences and a happy ending tied up with a bow on top.

This was an interesting read and I'm left not quite sure where to file it or how to review it.. the premise is about a new school in a small community for gifted children, and the chaos and competition it brings to the community, particularly a group of friends and their children, but the problems branch out so much farther than that -
Spoiler themes of loss, infidelity, divorce, friendship, parenting and betrayal are present throughout.

The book simultaneously ended by wrapping things up in a bow for the reader and leaving questions and I found myself wondering how things ended so nicely and also if really there would be more.

I was hesitant to pick up this book, thinking it would be no more than a rehash of current celebrity misdeeds... so glad I downloaded the audio version. Narration is what drew me in at first, but the story is what kept me involved all the way to the end. Excellent book! Highly recommend, and yes...there are similarities to Big Little Lies, in the best sense!
