The first modern detective story is honestly kind of a mess despite Poe's innovation. Auguste Dupin is certainly as intelligent as future detectives and there are some intriguing twists but the story is rough and the ending absurd to the point of undermining the journey. That said, it's historically significant and certainly competent as Poe is still Poe, even if his love for orugantangs is less welcome here than in Hop-Frog.

Analytical and stylized; I liked it. Being perhaps the first detective story, it was straight forward and detailed. Nothing too exciting (except for the murderer’s identity) but I still enjoyed it.

This is considered the first modern detective story and I definitely wasn't expecting that ending but I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed by this one. I wanted an 'emo' lyrical horror of a detective story but this is more Sherlock than Constantine. Still great, but lacking that definitive Poe-ness.

It's simple, short story, yet fascinating. Maybe it doesn't deserve this rating, but I enjoyed in it so who cares. Anyway I need to find more of these.

¿Quién mató a esas mujeres?
