I was reading this for a book club, which is the only reason I got as far as I did despite not finishing it, as I really didn't like it from the start and wanted to DNF at like 10%. Horror isn't a genre I'd usually choose, and as a trans person this was hard to read at times.

I thought the concept of this book was interesting, but felt like it wasn't developed enough and that we didn't get enough background on it. I didn't really love the writing, and felt like it was a bit lacking in a lot of places and that the pacing wasn't good. Also, I didn't really like or sympathise with any of the characters, so I just couldn't bring myself to care about their stories such as they were. Also far too much sex, and none of it was in any way sexy (I don't want to hear about rancid cum, thanks).

My life going forward can be categorized as before Manhunt and after. This book fundamentally changed something within me. I have read queer literature in the past but I have never connected to characters like this. This is such an unflinching depiction of queerness and complicated relationships we have with ourselves and our community. Wow wow wow the characters in this are everything to me, they are flawed and fucked up and selfish and would do anything for each other. The last hundred pages of this book are a wild zombie dystopian ride and I loved every heartbreaking moment of it.

Fascinating world and concept, very funny in parts. It's a comical and grotesque thought experiment taking the logic of anti trans hate to its logical conclusion: what if any "biological male" was literally a rapist monster... the violence was too visceral for me, but it serves a purpose in the story telling. Just like yeah, sickening.

the sex scenes written like body horror were a bit too frequent for my personal tastes, but the story was compelling enough for me to push through
