true dystopian horror, i was slightly taken aback by how brutal and violent it is but by the end of the book everything about it felt necessary. was also a little skeptical that a dystopia revolving around a gender-based pandemic would be done well (as it has been done so horribly in so many other instances), but i should have known to trust a trans person when it comes to telling this kind of story.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt. I have discovered while reading this book that I am not a fan of gore, and that I dont enjoy books with intense sex scenes or interactions that are uncomfortable.  But there are horror fans who would and do  love this book.

I might come back to this in the future but for now, this book is just too gory and graphic for me.

A visceral, brutal story of trans rage, pain, and love. Often deeply uncomfortable, the plot is engaging and the characters complex.

I am not one for gore, so I do not fault the book for being gruesome - I knew it would be when I picked it up and decided to read anyway. I am much too squeamish and I think that made it more difficult for me to enjoy, but that is not the book's fault at all. it was also way raunchier than I expected. very very graphic and gruesome. however, it was an emotional, adventurous, challenging, and sometimes fun and humorous book to read.

There was a lot of explicit content that didn't really feel necessary to the story. I'm all for smut, but I was expecting an apocalyptic read or something more like Handmaid's Tail.

Damn, I wrote a whole-ass review and hit back instead of save.

This book is A LOT. I would go from cackling one minute to having to put it down bc it was so upsetting.

The characters are really what elevated it above just the gore and violence (and sex...so. much. sex). I know some of the people in these pages and it's cool to see their representation here.

Really looking forward to this as a movie, it's screaming for an adaptation.
