Just wasn’t for me! The writing style and pace were confusing with massive time jumps that I didn’t realise had happened and had to keep going back and trying to find what I missed. There was also a lack of character and relationship development, with lots of new characters introduced towards the end. There are also constant explicit, rough sex scenes which isn’t a “bad” thing, just not my cup of tea.

I definitely see why there are people that love this book. I love a lot of weird gross unhinged horror books. Just not this one!

Trippy and macabre take on an apocalyptic dystopia where too much testosterone turns people into cannibalistic zombies. Told from the perspective of a group of trans folks, which is a very interesting take.

Manhunt was an incredibly powerful take on the zombie apolocalypse, centering hormones and gender identity. It was one of the scariest and goriest apolocalypse stories I've read in a long time, and one of the first I've read that features Trans characters. Beth and Fran's struggled not only to survive the zombified men and the TERFS, but also to find community and love. It was a fantastic read.

This book made me very uncomfortable, and goes at a pace that makes you feel like you can't catch you  breath. The characters were flawed, sometimes to an annoying extent, but in a way that mimicks a found family of traumitized people. I think it's worth sticking through the hard parts, but make sure youre in a good head space before you pick this one up. Especially if youre someone targeted by TERFS & SWERFS.

This book was a masterclass of balance. Part unflinching in it's portrayal of the violence wrought on trans women, as well as trans men and others whose bodies don't fit societal expectations. Part grimey zombie apocalypse horror. Part warning message about how hate groups such as terfs are only one inch away from violence, they are just waiting for their opening. Part erotica and part excellent sense of humor. The characters are real and complicated. It's got some dark subject matter yet the author can still make the book fun

Intriguing premise is what kept my interest throughout. I found a some of the characters (Fran and Ramona especially) insufferable and others (like Robbie for the first 2/3 of the book) dull and underdeveloped. Beth and Indi were my favs and I wish we got more of their POVs. Not sure how I feel about the book overall and whether I would recommend it.

A mixed bag. There were great elements, half-baked elements and poorly done ones. The concept itself is interesting, but it doesn't explore it with much nuance. And this concept requires nuance, with how close to being the edge of biological essentialism the premise is. It is very crass, with a lot of sex scenes that don't progress the book and gratuitous violence. Is that just a horror thing?
I started getting a bit bored in the middle part of the book and probably would've stopped reading if not for bookclub. But I did find the end fulfilling. So yeah, mixed thoughts.

Wow this book is a trip! If you're mad at toxic cis men and terfs, then this book is super cathartic. If you're trans and fragile, then be warned that there is a lot of trauma here. Like. So. Much. Trauma. Queer zombie apocalypse tho, very early 2000s vibes.
