I really loved the premise and writing style of this book and I’m really upset I couldn’t finish it, but I had to DNF because my stomach is too weak for all the gore and general grossness. :(

I genuinely was 20 pages away from finishing this book, but couldn't get myself to do it. I should have DNF-ed it halfway through, but hate doing that.

The idea for the book is good and the premise of it is good, but it is not executed well, at all. The characters were impossible to connect with beyond sharing similar labels as a queer person myself. The descriptions of characters and settings were confusing and lackluster and I couldn't keep up with the constant switching of POV's.

Also, what exactly was the point of all those random sex scenes? I love smut, but come on now.

Unfortunately, an exhausting read.

what the ffffuuuuuuc this book is so fucked up!!!!! wtfwtfwtfwtf such a genius setting and incredible dynamic between the main characters, and teach is the scariest villain ive ever read. and the climax!!!! holy guacamole this book messed me up 😭😭😭

i have little tiny small complaints like the parallel storytelling got out of hand sometimes and was cutting back and forth from scene to scene too fast and made the book feel overly cinematic, and there's little writing quirks like how whenever's there's two characters interacting one of them is always "the <adjective>-er woman" (beth looked at the shorter woman, indi hugged the younger woman, fran glared at the larger woman ...) other things like that that broke my immersion somewhat

all of that said my favorite favorite part of this book is this line from the acknowledgement: "[thank you] to all the trans women i've ever loved, to your perfect shoulders and the arches of your necks, to your lovely wrists and fingers."

gsshshfhdhdhwjwjdjfgfdlllg give me more transpocalypse torrey peters worship about the tenuous but powerful nature of t4t love RIGHT NOW!!!!

This is a hard book to review so take mine with all the salt grains. It’s horror and I don’t typically do that. It’s gory. It’s pithy. It’s snarky. It’s in your face. I love the one liners and I love the TERF tell offs. But the world created just makes me all sorts of sad and depressed. It was too much for me! But maybe that’s what makes it amazing? I think if you like really really dark horror that is very unique and different from anything you’ve read before and you support trans people, you will love this book.

it was gruesome, and i honestly got tired of it. there was one chapter (called The Brat) where i didn’t know which characters POV was present until the character was named at the end.
