Fascinating glimpse into a snapshot of time I never knew about: WWII era Spain and radio show Elena. Of course, this story is fiction but the setting is very real and the show was apparently hugely influential on generations of Spanish women. It's a grisly book but I'm glad I picked this up.

Ghostwriter is a graphic novel translated from Spanish. It takes place in Barcelona in the 1940s, and references a real advice radio show that served as cultural propaganda for the Franco regime. I loved the stark black and white graphics with a touch of red. The story starts by making you root for the Laia, so that you're already on her side once you realize that she has... a dark side. Really enjoyed this, perfect for a spooky season and right after a trip to Barcelona!

Barcelona, 1943. Thirty-two-year-old Laia has it all — a job on a popular radio advice program, a devoted husband, and a baby on the way. But when her husband goes missing while a vicious killer is terrorizing the city, Laia's world is shattered. Desperate, she turns to Maurice, a detective. When he hypnotizes her, it is revealed that there may be more to this unassuming housewife and kindly advice columnist than meets the eye.

I have mixed feelings about this one.

A crime noir set in Barcelona in 1943, this is about Eulalia that leads a double life. The artwork is fine, but somehow the story is a bit rush and some scenes have no explanation.

I liked this a lot, revenge, hypnotism, critique of Catholic values...
