Truly enjoyed this one. Probably one of my favorite books in the series.

Once again Koontz manages to be hilarious, touching, terrifying and everything in between with the return of his lovable character Odd Thomas.

Easily my favorite Odd Thomas book so far. I loved how this book spoke to me about matters of faith in God. It was so impressive how moral dilemmas cropped up repeatedly, forcing Odd to search his heart for the right thing to do. There were tender scenes of compassion that touched my heart and triggered sappy tears. The book had plenty of delightful character driven humor, mostly through brilliant dialogue. Koontz is a master at introducing supporting characters in a way that makes you feel a connection and an immediate sense of empathy. If you love fantasy adventure stories which are at times creepy, at times deeply thought provoking, and ultimately redemptive and heroic, this one will blow you away. It's the kind of book I would love to write myself. This is one of my favorite books read in the last year.

I decided to read Brother Odd since I liked the first two from the series. But it didn't convince me - the plot, the characters. I didn't feel the mood. After several attempts, I eased up.

With this third installment in Koontz’s series, I found that I was slightly disappointed with the novel. I mean, after reading numerous reviews that essentially exclaim that the novel Brother Odd was a fine return to form after many people exclaimed their disdain toward Forever Odd, I was quite surprised to find that I actually enjoyed Forever Odd more than Brother Odd. I’m not sure if this is good or not; indeed, I’m left to wonder whether Koontz’s writing has degenerated to such a degree that it’s finally come down to what is best in the mediocre. If it wasn’t for the moniker stamped on the dust jacket of the novel, I’m sure many of Koontz’s latest exercises would have remained in the slush pile.

Why do I feel compelled to read such drivel? In the end, I can’t really answer that, although I guess I can justify it by explaining that it passes the time when one is looking for something mindless to do. Between reading Koontz and setting myself on fire for shits and giggles, I’ll pick the act of reading every time. Boy, I sure am rough on old man Koontz, but I can’t help it. His novels have become such tedious exercises. And yet I still read them. So, on that note, when the next instalment of the series titled Odd Hours arrives in the mail, I’ll read it and then write a review here forthwith. You can count on it.

Definitely the creepiest OT story yet! But the pacing seemed to fall off at times. Still, loved it!
