this was FASCINATING. i think this solidified my case for historical fiction as someone who was never as personally interested in history as a subject in its own right. there is so much life in these pages that make the events feel palpable and poignant in a way that a textbook could never capture. i know i could find these histories in non-fiction, but stiefvater’s prose just really sunk its teeth into me with this. it’s definitely an acquired taste and one that meanders quite a bit in its pensive, mysterious tone, but if you can get through it, it’s worth it in my opinion.

The vibes and the setting were on point, but I never quite fell in love with the characters and the story.

Maggie Stiefvater is incredible at setting a scene and creating an atmosphere of wonder. This book did start to lose me a little in the middle of it, but the ending really pulled through.
