Politely, this is one of the worst books I've ever read. I was convinced at one point this book was ai generated bc I couldn't believe a human would write it. I'll add details to this soon :)

-----------------------

Update: I'm going to bullet point everything I remember because this was a wild ride (written so long later I forgot everyone's names)

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

- it's a book about witches, they are Christian, and they take offense at being called witches for some reason

- female lead has a twin that hates her. At first, he claims this is because she likes magic more than people. It's not clear why he thinks that

- their mom was supposed to be infertile, but a MEAN EVIL man used magic to make her have kids with him, creating the twins. But to create two lives, two lives needed to be lost

-grandma Gigi, the best character in the book, reveals she killed the lead's dad, to restore balance

- through some convoluted laws of magic, this saved the life of one twin but she also got cancer to prolong the life of the other?

- she specifically uses the line "How Else did you think I got this cancer?" As if people don't just get cancer... normally.

- the twins' mom couldn't be near her kids for some reason and when she tried, people died. This killing of the people did not count towards the unbalance in the universe that their lives caused.

- female lead steals male lead's dog. He thinks that's quirky and silly of her. She doesn't give the dog back for some reason. He's fine with this

- The male lead is actively trying to cheat on his fiancé with the protagonist

- when the female lead senses that he is trying to tell her bad news, she runs away from him again and again like a child. When he finally tells her that he's engaged, she gets mad at him for *not* telling her

- male lead throws female lead into a nasty pond, something she's afraid of going in because she can't see the bottom. She laughs it off and thanks him.? (I would have given him a punch to the gut)

- Male lead's fiancé tried to trap him into marriage by faking pregnancy so actually female lead and male lead can be together after all....?

- this book was bad

this book was written for millennial devout Christian women who want to participate in the Romantacy trend. I am not the target audience for magical romance novels where church and bible stories are mentioned every chapter. Also the writing was a bit juvenile? Just not my taste!

really cute book!! didn't necessarily expect the christian elements in it because it's a book about a family with witchy magic?? it didn't bother me much though bc it wasn't mentioned overly much. in general, it was a little slow and repetitive at times, but the vibes were adorable + cozy as heck. I also LOVED the fact that there was a recipe at the end of each chapter! I ended up saving over half of them hehe

The book was not what I expected. I feel like the blurb made the book seem as if it would be more of a small-town fantasy romance novel rather than one with a literal life-or-death situation.
