Catching Fire is the perfect follow-up to The Hunger Games. Although the book starts off slow, it's worth it by the end. Collins' makes a compelling case to ache for the characters, resist the Capitol, and to criticize the movement against them. This is not the first time I've read this book, and on reading it this time, I noticed another layer of depth that you don't get initially. I don't want to spoil anything, but the end is where the stakes become unavoidably clear.

Reread. A great sequel that builds upon and in some cases improves what was established in the first. Introduces some really delightful characters among the victors and expands the world really well. Can definitely leave you feeling pretty rough, because there is not a lot of bright spots in the situation we're finding ourselves in here with Katniss. While The Hunger games is able to hold it's own as a standalone, Catching Fire is not. It's very much a middle book and I don't think I would have enjoyed this book nearly as much if I wasn't able to immediately pick up the next book as soon as this one ended.
