so much better than the first one by miles (pun intended)

claire did get on my last nerve though, i understand grief but it was like she wasn’t using her brain at all!

I made a comment on my social media that I’d never listened to a book knowing nothing & asking what ppl might rec. Author Lainey Davis said I should try The Takeover by TL Swan. I grabbed it from KU (audio included) without reading the blurb or even checking who the narrators were. Additionally, I have never read anything by Swan before.

I ended up loving this - despite it having some things that normally would have put me off. I’m generally not a fan of enemies to lovers, but this totally worked for me. I think part of it was there were some misconceptions that had Claire & Tristan at odds and when they cleared those up it was obvious how well they worked together. It’s also not in my nature to start a series in the middle (it took everything I had not to listen to book 1 first!

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved it! Would recommend, almost perfect and likely would reread.

Claire Anderson is a struggling widow striving to sustain her late husband's media company, and Tristan Miles, the influential Head of Acquisitions for Miles Media known as the billionaire takeover king of New York. Their initial meeting is marked by Tristan's polished and composed exterior as he proposes to acquire Claire's failing company, triggering Claire's defensive and angry response. Six months later, at a business seminar in France, Tristan reenters Claire's life, leading to an unexpected week-long affair despite their apparent differences on paper. Claire, holding onto a fragile life with three sons, contrasts with Tristan's streamlined and polished existence. They continue to navigate their complex dynamics and the magnetic pull between them.

I was in fits of laughter because of this book and I totally understand why this is a favourite. There is still heaps of emotional moments throughout this book with great spice! The development of relationships, not only between the male and female main characters but also between the male main character and the children was beautiful. I think the only let down of this book that really took me out of the story is the "movie magic" moment. If you know what I am talking about you'll understand I just was so jarred by it.

I just came here for the smut… didn’t realize this book was gonna have me laughing hysterically and bawling my eyes out. The sex scenes weren’t that great and a bit cringe tbh but the storyline was surprisingly pretty good

I enjoyed this one even more than the first one which is surprising because single mom is not my go to.

When the couple hooks up at around the 20% mark, I became dubious. What is going to happen for the next 80%? This is my apology for doubting the genius ways of T.L. Swan.

This book is absolutely magical! My absolute favourite part is the interactions with the kiddies. How he builds relationships with them based on what they need. He didn't try too hard to be someone he thought they needed, he was just himself.

I laughed so much at the scenes involving the kiddies. I developed such a soft spot for them all!

This story is beautiful ❤️
