I liked the story overall and it could have been so fantastic if it wasn't for how badly main characters, Claire and Tristan were written. It was impossible for me to feel any emotions towards them whatsoever because they were acting so immature throughout the entire book. To be honest, I think 9-year old Patrick was the most mature character in the whole bunch. Claire appears to have some kind of identity crisis? I mean, how else can I explain why her monologues are in British English? She grew up in the US, lives in Long Island, but if you hear her, you'd never know that. Tristan is also very weird (I mean, who do you know that uses the word "underpants" in his daily speech? Not "underwear" or "boxers" or "briefs", UNDERPANTS...So odd). His inner monologues were also that of a 12-year old.
I appreciate the fact that we are dealing with older main characters (not your typical 20s), a single parent and grieving a loved one, I just wish the characters were more thought out.

“Tristan “Fucking” Miles!” Really enjoyed this one. When I say i was laughing out loud listening to the audiobook i mean i was laughing! The interactions between Tristan Claire’s kids are hilarious. But then their bond is so precious. This book had me laughing and even tearing up at times. Can’t wait to continue the series.

4.5⭐️ I feel like I say this a lot, but any time there are kids involved in a romance and we have the single parent trope, I fall in love with the story.
Synopsis: The Takeover follows Jameson’s brother, Tristen, who buys companies that are going bankrupt and fixes them for profit, and Claire, the CEO of Anderson Media who is struggling to keep her late husbands company afloat. When Tristen meets with Claire in hopes of taking over her company, she has no interest in selling and thinks he’s an arrogant asshole. A few months later the two meet again at a conference and despite Claire’s hatred, have an intense fling. Of course, this quickly turns into something more once they are both back in NYC, but does Claire have it in her broken heart to let someone new in?
Thoughts: Just like in The Stopover, this book had it all! There was great chemistry between the two MCs, hilarious humor, witty/sexy banter, sentimental moments, steamy scenes and so much love. Tristen was the most epic hero and the way he cared for Claire’s kids like his own, melted my heart. Claire was also a great heroine who was fiercely protective of her kids and while I just wanted to shake her at times, particularly at the end, I understand why she acted the way she did.

Okay... hate to say it but.... Tristan and Claire are my new fav
I liked this a lot more than [b:The Stopover|45156972|The Stopover (The Miles High Club, #1)|T.L. Swan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1567712346l/45156972._SY75_.jpg|69847080] but it seems it wasn't as good for me as it was for everyone else. I don't love, what seems to be a pattern for this author thus far, the heroine losing all and any badassness she had when it comes to the third act break-up. The groveling they do seems out of character and kind of misogynistic. Like why is she making all the sacrifices?
Claire's oldest son Fletcher calling Tristan Dad also made me balk, I get the younger kids but an 18 year old? I'm sorry but I don't see it.
Overall I enjoyed it. I'm going to keep going because KU and I'm like morbidly fascinated by all the things I don't like about these books and these men.
