This trilogy did not deliver the message of women empowerment that I figured it originally was going for. After the first book, everything could have just been left at that. The next two books seem pointless and overall mixed messages on morals and themes. What were we suppose to learn here? The ending to this trilogy was disappointing and frustrating. This poor female protagonist just can never catch a real break. I understand people go through rough patches in life but where is the nice ending for this character? Don’t tell me the ending of this book is the nice ending, that’s a bunch of …. Nobody is truly rooting for this dumb insecure love interest. Going back into a toxic relationship is romantic? He’s changed? Please. Our female protagonist deserves better, and after the character development from the first book, she would concur! The next two books seemed to take that character development and slam it straight into the garbage. It’s as if the author panicked in making more content for the masses and just forgot their own character. The next two books just read as if we were keeping up on gossip and drama. Perhaps I’m not the right audience for this trilogy, and that’s totally fine, but there still should be a better moral and point for all this character development. This was a great disservice to this female protagonist. I see now why only the first book was made into a movie. Also, I think I’ve heard the word “surreptitiously” enough for the rest of my life. The overuse of that word throughout this trilogy was aggravating. It could almost be a drinking game with how often it is used in these books. All that being said, I do not regret reading this trilogy. It had potential to be better.
