Most books I read quickly, this one I read slowly because even at the beginning I didn't want it to end. Irene was, as always, magnificent and I loved seeing more of the dragons and the Fae together. I can't wait to see what happens now in the sixth book.

The Mortal Word started slowly but the action-filled ending made up for the slow start. I still don't feel the relationship between librarian Irene and Kai, her former apprentice dragon - it seems like an afterthought and doesn't add to the story in my opinion. I don't sense any sexual or romantic tension between them.

Still, this is a fun series about a strong woman and an unabashed celebration of words, books, and librarians:

"Everyone else - Vale, Silver, Hsien, the people now crowding at the doorway - were looking at her in the same way. Expectant. Hopeful. Waiting for her to sort it out. Can't anyone else have a plan? Why does it have to be my plan? " (p. 399)

I’m stubborn so pushing through this series but getting harder to hang with it. Good bedtime read since I’m not terribly into it and will fall asleep with it.

mmmm mmm two murder mysteries in a row i rly am treating myself

it pains me to find any flaws w this because it was So entertaining but -> vale didn't really do anything? hes brought in as the Great Detective but he spends all his time running around making show while irene is the one who figures out who did it.. i would have liked vale to have a bigger role
also wtf was prutkov actually doing? that was confusing
also i'd have liked to see more bradamant she kinda just vanished ;___;

I love this series so much. The characters are so endearing and the intrigue is well written. I would love for this to become a tv series

More action, less character development this book but it leads me to think big things may be in store for Irene...

HOT DAMN. I do not know how I did it or who is at fault, but I received my copy of the fifth instalment of the Invisible Library Series yesterday, almost two weeks before the actual publication. Thanks, postman, I love you!

And what a ride it was. Y'all are in for some highly entertaining, exciting and nerve-wracking story involving our favourite characters. I won't spoiler anything here, but does Irene has time to sleep or eat or relax EVER? I don't think so as she is too busy so safe the day (and Paris, and the balance between chaos and order, and worlds).

You can all look forward to dragons, fae, 1890s Paris, anarchists, murder, a famous detective, the Library and an almost insolvable case for Irene.

ENJOY!

More of humor and intrigue and new worlds. We get dragon, Fae, and Library politics all in one. Irene has to walk a thin line to keep everyone in balance/trust. Bonus we get Vale too. Love all these characters and the adventures they find themselves roped into. Looking forward to where we go from here.
After establishing a new position for Irene to hear complaints now that a truce is in place via treaty between the dragons and Fae. I imagine it's not going to go smoothly.
