This book was well-written, but nothing drew me into it. I could care less about Artemio's death, for example, which is partly the point, but it makes it difficult to appreciate this book. Perhaps I would like it more if I were more well-versed with Mexican history.

I kept thinking I'd get through this book because all the descriptions are "classic Latin American novel" but death bed ramblings are not my cup of tea. I wish I'd read this in one of my many Latin American lit classes, but coming to it by myself later on just doesn't have the same urgency.

very interesting, but it didn’t fully connect for me. the style is incredibly hard to parse
Intentaba esforzarme por leer este libro, me parece interesante, pero es que la prosa me parecía un poco demasiado superflua 🤒
Minor: Death
I really wanted to like this book - it's such an esteemed classic, after all. Buuuut I didn't. There were elements I enjoyed - the love scenes between Artemio and Regina and Artemio and Laura. And Artemio and his wife, for that matter. But not knowing anything about the Mexican Revolution, I was frequently confused by what was happening. Also, in the edition I read it was almost impossible to distinguish between time periods and divisions in the text, so sometimes I had no idea whether I was in the past or present.
I normally really enjoy Latino writing, but I just couldn't get into this book.
