As someone who has a complicated relationship with religion/faith, I really enjoyed the themes in this. I particularly enjoyed the use of the seasons (Summer being the most effective).

However, as we moved towards the end of the novel, the pace slowed down, and the narrative became more dull, ultimately leading to an ending I didn’t find satisfying.

This was the most disturbing, horrific novel I have ever read. It was like reading an A24 novel. Absolutely grotesque. Also some of the best, most unique writing and storytelling. Ottessa Moshfegh is a master of her craft, and I admire her ability to create such strong emotions with so little adjectives.

Where do I even begin..... Honestly, I have never had to put down a book so many times in my life. I was shocked by the sheer depravity within its pages. If you can imagine a sin, it is in this novel. If you want to be sick to your stomach by all means, read it. I'm going to go take a hot bath in bleach and read my Bible.
