i appreciated the format of this book, inviting the reader into past, present, and future of the main character. i got lost along the way on some transitions but the subtle and not so subtle commentaries on the effects of war and globalism were captivating. the magnitude of sacrifice and revenge were well described throughout.

I really enjoyed the way the book is written, but one thing that made it feel really fantastical was the lack of racism. I don't mean I WANT racism in my books, it just felt really unrealistic for the main character to be a Black Latina woman who doesn't experience racism in the Southern US, even in the future.

What a good story, and entirely too plausible eight years after it was written. Of course, some parts of the story have already happened to some people. The conversion of a woman into what some people would call a terrorist is captivating.

It is a good book, but with no offense to the author, it was clearly written by someone not intimately acquainted with American Culture. There is few if any mentions of race in this book that takes place majority in the deep south of future america. I listened to the book on audible and the narration was spectacular. But I kept waiting for a discussion or mention of racial dynamics and politics. There was nearly none. This is very disappointing given how much I enjoyed the book and really left a large gaping void in my listen. I can possibly overlook this as its the future but no discussion of american politics is complete without inclusion of this aspect, especially when speaking of "Southern Heritage."
