The Man in Black is a historical, LGBT romance. Fenimore James is a young man who is bored in his life. He is a dreamer and believes he should be more, however, that more is running away from home to become an outlaw named Simon Shaw. Simon believed he was going to be able to rob his way through life living his best life. He joins a gang, but he comes to find out that joining this gang is no joke. This is a life that is a bloody one and there is a mystery person out there after the gang’s blood. Many of its members are being murdered. Simon has dreams at night where a “man in black” visits him. He doesn’t understand why this man is in his dreams but he thinks it is important. However, he is dealing with other “issues” as he starts to question his sexuality - at the beginning, he has always questioned this but was engaged to a woman. However, his feelings for men are too strong and he ends up trying on this experience with another gang member. He and his new “friend” start to try to help the gang figure out who could be hurting them, and the leader gets scared and starts to think it could be someone they are all close to. This is a thriller and has a good plot, but will Simon find the life he has always dreamed for himself, is the killer someone close to them, and will he figure out where he belongs amongst all of this?
This was an interesting story. It has been a while since I read a historical setting piece, but the fact that it was a thriller made is worth the read. It was a little slow to start, but if you can get through the beginning it will be a good read. There are many exciting parts, the aspect of taking on a puzzle, outlaws, and it was nice seeing a man trying to figure out who he was. If you are looking for a different take on an LGBT story and love thrillers, this is the story for you.

This was an enjoyable wild west thriller which I enjoyed. I’ve not read a book based in the Wild West for a long time, so I was pleasantly surprised when reading this by just how much I was enjoying it.

The plot was intriguing and unique, and the book was written well – the descriptive language used painted vivid pictures of both the scenes and characters.

Fenimore/Simon was an interesting character. Leaving a small ton life for the ‘glory’ of life as an outlaw was an interesting plot point. Then the mystery thriller elements, the character truly develops as he navigates sexuality and life within the gang. I love seeing character development so this was a great thing to see.

I liked that this wasn’t the typical western story, there was a lot more to it. The length of the book didn’t put me off, I adore long books, but feel like this may put some readers off. Give it a chance, you may surprise yourself.

This is the story of a young man that leaves his family with the hope of becoming a famous outlaw. On his journey, he joins an outlaw gang. This book contains mature content, such as violence and a M/M romance. This is not the type of book I usually read, but I did like the basic storyline and the mystery of the man in black

This book had everything. Violence to suspense to spice!! I really enjoyed this! It’s a rather large book but it didn’t feel like it because the story and characters pulled me right in and kept me interested every page. I loved the drama and action especially. Wonderfully written thriller with romance and I highly suggest this. Check the warnings.

Wow for the first time in a long time I am struggling to find the right words to explain the rollercoaster ride of emotions I just went on reading this book. This very talented author captivates the reader right from the very beginning with truly well written characters and an absolutely thoroughly intriguing storyline that will definitely keep you hooked till the end. This really is a thrilling mystery that will have you constantly questioning what you think is going to happen next.

What do you get when the son of a farmer dreams of a more fast-paced life? A whirlwind of a story, that's what. Fenimore always wanted more, so he decided to leave home to find the adventures he'd always dreamed of. This is an excellent book for any Western fans out there. You will find yourself drawn in from the very start and won't be able to put it down.

The Man In Black by L.R. Liverpool Is about a man who decided to find a more fulling and exciting life in the West.
Fennimore James lived a simple life with his family on the farm his father owned on the east coast, he only dreamed and read about the happenings of the wild west. After getting a idea to go there to fulfil his dreams of being like Billy the kid, he comes up with his moniker Simon Shaw and set off to search for The Evans gang. After a chance encounter with Red Evans himself in a salon His dreams have finally came true.
Life on the road isn't what he had hoped for, the glitz  and the glam of it fell short in his eyes. With Simons anxieties and withdrawn nature he doesn't quite fit in. As he settles into the life and starts to make friends with the others in the gang he finds himself in hot water as someone one is pursuing the gang taking them out one by one. He also finds himself falling for one of the gang members and uncovering a truly heinous past of how his lover was added to the group.
There's so much to unpack on in this book. A lengthy read but well worth it. Full of deceit, love and old west action. L.R Liverpool keeps you guessing the entire book. Also the ending is absolutely gut-wrenching. I have a feeling this book will haunt me in my dreams.

Not my usual genre at the moment but I thought for a change I would delve into this historical suspense. And this book gives you suspense, and action alongside a fast paced (once you are hooked) story of self exploration and how life changes.
I can say I enjoyed it, it took me  a bit to fall into the world described (again possibly as it's not my go to genre) but the author really does pull you along with Simin (Fenimore) as they change their life from farmer to outlaw in the West.
The book does show how his life changes and that the grass is not alway greener.  As with many historical reads there are mentions of behaviours that are not as much of our everyday life in this time. This does show that the author has done their research and sticks to the narrative and builds a word as close to what may have happened as possible.
I would certainly read more by this author.

This is a great read. It has a little of everything from mystery, suspense, drama and a sparkle of romance. This a medium too fast read, it will take a minute to draw you in but once you’re there it’s hard to put down. I recommend to all readers who likes to escape back in time. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

This is book is so many things…historical fiction, romance, western, LGBT+, thriller, mystery…I feel like it has it all! And it's not a small undertaking either…this is a big ole book. But don't let that deter you from picking it up. Liverpool has built this fantastical world for her characters and she takes her time really getting into her characters and developing them and letting them figure out who they are and what they want. I thoroughly enjoyed this book WAAAYYYY more than I even anticipated it would. It did take me a little while to get into, but once I did, I had a hard time putting it down. It's a great coming-of-age saga, but it's also so much more. I really can't recommend this book enough. Pick it up for yourself...just allow yourself time to really get into to it and appreciate it.
