We read this as the July pick in my book club. The group enjoyed the book and we had a nice discussion about it (so it wasn't a "book club dud").

The story itself took place in what must be one of the most tragic towns ever, Leadville, CO. The characters in this book have experienced lots of loss and personal tragedies in their lives.

The whole vibe of the book is very reminiscent of something else I have read but I haven't yet been able to put my finger on it. I will update my review when I remember it.

It's times like this I wish that Goodread had a .5 star system because, while I don't think this is a 4 star book I'm also not happy with it being a 3 star book either. 3.5 stars would be perfect.

This book is a beautiful homage to small towns and regret, but I had a hard time with the main character. She was so consumed with blaming herself, that I think it distracted from a really compelling storyline. I loved the original idea and the honest complexity of family relationships. Overall it’s still worth a read.

I think others will really like it but I just couldn’t connect with the main character. I think she’s supposed to come across as someone working through life but she really just is incredibly rude all the time and her decision making is incredibly annoying.

I don’t regret reading it. I loved lots of things about this story and would still recommend it.

I've read the whole book but decided not to rate this as I feel I wasn't giving this book the my full attention. There is so many high reviews on this and it's obviously something I missed but I feel I couldn't get emersed in the story or connect with the characters. But will give it a reread some other time
