I enjoyed the second installment of the series. However, I must mention a few points. First, the good stuff.

Abigail is a fabulous heroine. She stands on her own feet and she is quite intelligent. None of that woe is me, save me crap. She has a minor love interest, but it's not the center of the story. Jackaby is his old self. Interesting, aloof, and on the hunt. The characters are well described and the plot was pretty good.

But the story dragged on in places. Jackaby doesn't seem to get as much "screen time" (if you will) as he did before and I preferred his quirkiness to anything else. There's a lot of talk going on. The first one seemed to have much more action and mystery. I found myself completely lost at times. As in, the story lost me.

Sometimes the second book isn't great. It happens. I'm expecting book three to be epic. This one gets a solid 3.8 stars for me. Love Abigail. Love jackaby love the idea of the story, but would have liked more of those things instead of the dragged out sciency parts.

Beastly Bones was on par with the first novel, Jackaby, in terms of entertainment value. This novel's mystery was set in an archeological dig complete with competing paleontologists, hunters, and newspaper reporters. All things that were fascinating and totally fun to read about. Everything is tied up nicely at the end, leaving no loose ends to wonder about.

We do see more of Charlie, and get to witness as Abigail and Charlie sort of dance around their mutual crushes on each other. Very cute. Totally worth a read. Jackaby himself isn't actually in this book as much as he was in the first one -- there were more characters to balance here so it makes sense. But his appearances do push the book forward into the plot, so there was no wastefulness here.

I enjoyed Beastly Bones, and will be reading the next entry in this series very soon!
