This book had a slower pace than the first. The ending was exciting but I had a hard time getting there. I could have done without the many chapters of paleontology politics that weren’t very necessary to the plot.

Gripping story with interesting characters. This second book in the Jackaby series is even better than the first, with Abigail Rook getting more confortable in her new world.

Really wonderful series, cannot wait for the next installment.

well this was definitely an improvement on the first Jackaby book. I still think it takes way too long for anything exciting to happen though. As in the first one, things only started really popping by the 70% mark. Still though, the monster vs characters fight was tres great!!
I doubt Jackaby will ever be a five star read for me but it's definitely an enjoyable book. One more complaint though, Abigail really needs to start wearing trousers. Not sure how it's even possible to evade paranormal malignant shit wearing a dress that gets in the way of everything.

These books are absolutely delightful! I love a paranormal mystery. This series is written for young adults, but Ritter doesn't dumb the material down.

Jackaby is wonderful as a character. Mysterious and powerful in a Doctor Who sort of way, but personable. The book is told from his partner's (shall we say "companion's") point of view who is a young British woman of estate descent.

Take a romp across the early American country side with a super fun group of characters and solve the mystery of the Beastly Bones!
