I enjoyed this a lot more than its predecessor! I love how spunky Abigail got in this book. She became such a true, strong heroine. I also loved the continuing quirkiness of Jackaby and humor and wit of the series in general. (Seriously, there are so many quotable lines in these books!)
I feel like this book set up for the next much more nicely than the last one did, so I am most definitely looking forward to it. My only gripe is the romantic situation. Charlie's nice and all, but I kinda ship Abigail and Jackaby. *shrugs* Oh well.

I'm liking this series. The character development, the paranormal mysteries, the historical time period. I'll definitely be reading the next book!
These Jackaby books are so much fun! I love the interactions between Jackaby and Ms. Rook and all the little quips he has with her, and pretty much every other character, too, lol. I really enjoyed this story and I'm very interested for book three!
I loved this book! I was impressed with Jackaby and liked this even better. This sequel to a fantastic MG/YA paranormal mystery remains witty and irreverent in places, and the characters are quirky and exceedingly likable. Bad news and good - this volume ends with a total cliffhanger, but at least we know there will be another book! Jackaby, Abigail, Charlie, Jenny, Douglas - keep them coming!
Disappointed in this second book. Not terrible, but I honestly didn't want to finish it. I was bored. 2.5 stars.
I’m torn on whether I liked this one more than the first or not. Like the first one, we get to follow Jackaby and Abigail Rook on another adventure, but this second one doesn’t take place in the same area that the first one had. It’s not a problem on my end, since it helps to bring back one of my favorite characters, but I found myself a little more confused as I was reading this one than I had been the first time. A good thing for a mystery, probably! (I’m not much of a mystery read, and I really should change that.)
Of course, once I got to the end, all those loose bits came together and made more sense, they had only seemed random because I had not put two and two together before being told whodunnit and why. Other than that, I really enjoyed the story. Jackaby was still eccentric and hilarious, Rook was still a nicely animated female with a good lick of rebellion, and the new characters were pretty interesting to learn about.
My favorite part of this second installment, though, would have to be the end, simply because of how Abigail handled the situation and interacted with Jackaby in the conversation that followed the incident, which will not be named. The relationship between Jackaby and Abigail is probably one of the things I enjoy most about this series, they make a good Sherlock and Watson pair without crossing boundaries that would slam them into being romantic, like I was almost worried it would be. If it becomes that at a later point, then I’ll probably be okay with it, but I really love how it’s set up now, and I hope that doesn’t change anytime soon.
All in all, a good installment to a pretty cute series that still seems to border somewhat on being Middle Grade, but I’m not complaining.

3.5 Stars
Jackaby himself was just as fun and witty as ever. The characters are all very rich and each have their own distinct "flavor" which was wonderful to read. They are the best part of these books.
However this one was too slow for me.
While I did love the concept of the paleontology combined with mysterious paranormal creatures. Shortly after we arrive at the dig-site the plot starts to stall a little. There's too much talking/explaining and I had a hard time paying attention. I missed the whimsy and magic we felt from book one.
It's a fine, solid story but just wasn't as fun to read so that's the main reason I docked stars.
The open ending helps set the stage for book three and I am already much more intrigued in that story than this one. I'm looking forward to reading Ghostly Echoes and hope that I'll love it as much as the first.

Delightful. Also quick. Apparently I read this one and the first book in 3 hours each....
I do skim the action scenes, though.

I really enjoyed Beastly Bones. It really came together in the last half. I was satisfied with the ending and left possibilities for future books. I only wish the descriptions were more in depth, but I'm not sure if it's because I'm reading too fast to see what's going to happen next
